Abstract

In this EVO session, participants will explore how they can engage their students in productive conversations about peace and conflict. Critical to this experience is participating in the constructive conversations and skills-based exercises one hopes to bring into the classroom. The session will be based on the Peacebuilding Toolkit for Educators (middle school and high school editions) created by the United States Institute of Peace. Participants will explore the principles on which the toolkit is based, develop an understanding of peacebuilding concepts, consider their own interpretations- as well as those of others- around peace and conflict, and will discuss how to incorporate these concepts and skills in their classrooms.

Target Audience

Teacher educators, ESL/EFL teachers in schools (Middle School and High School), colleges, and universities, who are interested in global issues, conflict resolution, and peaceful coexistence.

Interest Section Sponsors

TEIS, SSIS, SRIS
