Objectives:

1. To understand the role of conflict analysis in managing conflicts

2. To develop conflict analysis skills

3. To identify various conflict styles and consider the advantages/limitations of each

Activities:

3. Conflict styles- advantages/limitations activity

Task 1: Peace/Not Peace (Days 1-3, January 20-22)

a. Imagine a scale of 1-10 with 1 representing Absolute Peace and 10 representing the complete opposite - Not Peace. Go to the Google Community here and read the three statements in the Peace/Not Peace Statements Tab. Write what number you give for each statement, ranging from 1 to 10 and share how you feel about each statement.

b. Reply to at least two other people's comments.

c. Starting January 22, join the discussion about the exercise here.

Task 2: Personal Conflict Analysis (Days 2-4, January 21-23)

a. Read the Elements of Conflict PDF Elements of Conflict.pdf

b. Think of a personal conflict that you have been involved in and analyze the conflict using the Analyzing a Conflict handout Analyzing a Conflict.pdf. If you have time, do the same conflict analysis exercise using a conflict in your community or a national/international conflict.

Join the Hangout on Air (HOA) on Sunday, January 26 at 2:00 pm GMT to have a conversation about bringing the ideas discussed during the week into your classroom. To join the HOA, go to the Virtual Studio for instructions. The link for the HOA will be posted 15 minutes before the start of the session.
