Week 1  (Jan 13 - 19, 2014):

Overview: This week we will review some basics for the session and get to know one another. We will also become familiar with the guiding principles of the Peacebuilding Toolkits for Educators and will explore the concept of conflict.

Objectives:

1. To explore teaching and learning principles that support education about peacebuilding

2. To consider the value of multiple perspectives

3. To understand the distinction between dialogue and debate, as well as the place of dialogue in peacebuilding

Activities:

1. Guidelines for communication

2. 3-2-1 Introductions

3. Paper-folding activity

4. Discussion of dialogue and debate

5. Discussion of the term "conflict"

NOTE: Next to each of the tasks below we have indicated the days of the week that you should focus on each one. These days/dates are intended as a general guide. Realizing that some people may only be able to come to the Wiki or the Google Community once in a given week, please feel free to ignore the days indicated. That said, some discussions won't begin until later in the week, as they must occur after people have first had the opportunity to do an activity.

Tasks 1: Join our Online Spaces (Days 1-2; January 13-14)

a. Join this Wiki. Click on "Request access" in the upper right hand corner of this page. Once access is granted and you create an account, you will be able to post comments at the bottoms of pages.

b. Join our Google Community. You will be prompted to create a Google account, if you do not have one. Once you create an account, you can click on the red tab "Join the Community" at the top of the page. You will have to receive moderator approval before you can access the community.

Below is a short video that explains a few important elements about joining and interacting in these two communities.

c. Once you have received approval, create a Profile on the Google Community. If you need guidance, watch the video below. You'll learn how to create a profile at minute 12:15 of the video.

Hi there! The survey does not have a click button for others in location. I typed in my location and it doesn't accept it. The only option other than that is to click on United States.

Hi, I checked it out. I tried editing it before and couldn't get it to work. This time was no different, unfortunately. Click on the "United States" option and then type your actual country in the box. The system should take it when you do it that way.
